Karratha: City of the North

In Karratha, over $170m has been invested transforming a traditional and under resourced mining town to a regional hub that will offer lifestyle, infrastructure and services to enhance the towns liveability. Faced with a daunting schedule that included the development of a leisure and learning hub, reserve upgrade, regional playgrounds, youth spaces, family centre, hospital upgrade, superclinic, town revitalization programme, airport upgrade, underground power and water waste system (to name a few) the Shire created a Strategic Project Office. The Strategic Project Office was charged with the responsibility of managing all projects and ensuring they met all key performance indicators. .

The Shire of Roebourne team of Simon Kot (Director Strategic Projects and Business), Geoff Shoemark (Project Manager) Belinda Tussler (Administration Coordinator), and Geof Whyte (former Project Manager) will highlight the importance of the Strategic Project Office in the achieving the ambitious programme of works. The Karratha: City of the North presentation will focus on the establishment and structure of the Strategic Projects Office, including the reporting and communication methodology and staff training, a review of projects undertaken, and importantly the place the Strategic Project Office fits within the overall organisational framework of the local authority.
